Meet Hadley
About Me
Hello! I’m Hadley Young, and I’ve had the pleasure of teaching piano and tutoring math for the past 15 years. I truly enjoy working with students one-on-one, as it allows me to customize lessons and tailor the pacing to each individual. I approach concepts from different angles to find the methods that resonate best with each student. Witnessing those “lightbulb” moments is one of the most rewarding parts of my job!
My Math Journey
When people find out I’m a math tutor, they might assume that math has always come naturally to me. While I do enjoy problem-solving and have a strong aptitude for math, there have certainly been challenging moments along the way. Working through these difficulties has not only strengthened my math skills but also deepened my ability to help others overcome their own hurdles.
I work with students from elementary through college, including preparation for AP math tests and the math sections of the ACT and SAT. I hold a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, along with a Minnesota Mathematics 5th-12th grade educator license. In addition to working with students individually, my experience also includes serving as a teaching assistant for College Algebra and Precalculus at U of M and teaching at Valley View Middle School in Edina and Oak Grove Middle School in Bloomington.
My Piano Journey
My piano journey began in kindergarten, and I had the privilege of studying with Patricia Kreuziger from third grade through high school. I’m incredibly grateful for her guidance, which has been instrumental in shaping my musical path. During my student years, I participated in numerous events organized by the Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA) and the Minneapolis Music Teachers Forum, and I am now a proud member of both organizations.
Piano has been a source of immense joy and personal growth for me. It has enriched nearly every aspect of my life—connecting me with friends, helping me process emotions, teaching me perseverance, and fostering my creativity and confidence.
In my piano lessons, I focus on aligning with my students’ goals, whether they’re preparing for state piano contests, passing music theory exams, playing duets with family, or mastering songs from their favorite movies or video games. My primary objective is to help students find joy, fulfillment, and a sense of accomplishment in their piano journey.
I also love to create engaging games and activities for note-reading and music theory, including piano-themed escape rooms. I host two recitals per year to celebrate my students’ achievements and offer group learning opportunities for recital preparation and music theory classes.
More About Me
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, playing the cello, ice skating, and camping in Minnesota’s beautiful state parks. I’m always eager to learn new things and explore new interests!
